A Wish and a Prayer

Anyone worried that living in a small town could be boring certainly hasn't lived in Henry Adams, Kansas. From the wealthy divorcÉe who saved this historic town founded by freed slaves to the romantic entanglements that have set tongues wagging and hearts fluttering (and everything in between), there's plenty to keep the lovably eccentric townsfolk busy.

Preston Miles is happy living with his foster parents, but an e-mail from his maternal grandmother is about to change all that. . . . Riley Curry, the former town mayor, is convinced his pet hog, Cletus, acted in self-defense when he sat on—and killed—a man. Now Riley just has to prove it in a court of law. . . . And as for Rocky, she has already had a lifetime of hurt. Will she risk opening her heart—and her life—to Jack?

Warm, funny, poignant, and unforgettable, Beverly Jenkins's latest excursion to Henry Adams is a true delight—a welcome return to a place that always feels like home.

I loved this book from the get go! Perhaps it’s because I grew up in a (not so) tiny town in Oregon. My family raised upwards of 100 head of beef on our farm, so I can say the sense of community can be there, as are the issues of change, maintain, decline, or build for the sake of building (so too is the griping). This novel hit home in several ways. I’ve been following the concept of buying a town (was amaze

Night Hawk

Outlaw.Preacher. Night Hawk. He's had many names, but he can't escape the past.

Since Ian Vance's beloved wife was murdered years ago, the hardened bounty hunter knows he'll never feel love or tenderness again, so he's made it his mission to ensure others get their justice. But when he's charged with delivering a sharp-eyed beauty to the law, Ian can't help but feel he may still have something left to lose.

Orphaned at twelve, Maggie Freeman has always found her way out of trouble. But now there's a vigilante mob at her back who would like nothing more than to see her hang for a crime she didn't commit. Maggie may have to accept help for the first time in her life . . . even if it's from the one man standing between her and freedom.

As the past closes in, the sassy prisoner and toughened lawman may just find a passion between them that could bring blinding happiness . . . if they'll let it.

Trouble multiplies when Trent is called on to help a new family move to town, not to mention Lily and Trent's task of blending their families together.

Small towns are a blessing - and sometimes also a curse. Not a curse in the voice-trilling witch type of way, but rather in the way that everyone knows everything and isn't afraid to share their knowledge with those unfortunate enough to not know the latest news. Something Old, Something New tells the tale of two lovers, Lily and Trent, on the verge of their wedding and who just can't seem to get the town o

Set in Boston, our heroine is Faith Kingston the daughter of a loyal British tavern owner. Faith though has taken on a new persona and is now a spy for the rebellion known as “Lady Midnight”. Faith has set her course and seemingly nothing can distract her from it

I enjoyed reading this anthology of holiday related romance shorts from Kumani Press, a Harlequin imprint. The three stories are not interrelated and can be read as standalone stories. The stories are by three different authors and I’ve done a mini –review for each below. Both Ms. Jenkins and Ms. Byrd used African –American couples, while Ms. Terry used an inter-racial couple. The stories ar

Beverly Jenkins does a wonderful job of bringing Dominique and Clare to life and I really appreciate how she leaves out no detail to spare the reader's sensibilities regarding the plight of the slaves back in the day. There was little to no sugar coating of just what it meant to be a slave or simply a person of color living in those times. I thought that Dominique and Clare's backgrounds were very realistic a
