Unexpected Daddy

When twenty-six-year-old Joey Beirs is summoned to the emergency room one evening, the last thing he expects to find is that his twin brother and Jeremy’s wife have both been killed in a car accident, leaving him an UNEXPECTED DADDY to his newborn niece, Abby. Closing in on the end of his leave from work, Joey has to find suitable childcare for Abby. After yet another interview turns south, Joey is accosted by homophobic bigots and saved by Geoff Allread.

Geoff is in his forties, an out-of-work carpenter whose unemployment is running out, soon to be faced with working in fast food or retail to keep food on the table in the recession. He’s also late to come out of the closet, a wounded man that has lost everything by admitting what he is... including his daughter from his ill-fated marriage. Geoff is good with kids and adores Abby. It’s a match made in heaven. At forty-three, Geoff needs a job that doesn’t mean asking if someone wants fries, and Joey needs someone that’s good with Abby. But can both of them overcome their hurts and accept that the age difference doesn’t matter as much as finding what they’ve both lost... a stable family?

When Joey Byers finds himself being a father under tragic circumstances, he doesn't think twice about keeping his niece. Finding a babysitter for the time he goes back to work is a different matter altogether and leads him to an interesting situation. I really enjoyed seeing how things developed between Joey and Geoff and how the story was written. While I found the story to be a perfect length for where i

Monsters of Myth

We’ve read about them. We’ve watched movies about them. They’ve haunted our nightmares and tantalized our imaginations. They are the monsters of myth and legend.

You know them: vampires, Frankenstein’s monster, zombies, ghosts, and all manner of mischievous creatures that cause inexplicable mayhem.

Welcome to my worlds, and may the magic of the myths never die.

Our favorite monsters (and some lesser known) are brought back for a visit. Brenna Lyons steps out of her usual style of writing with enjoyable results. You get a different take on Frankenstein's monster to gremlins. If you are looking for more of Brenna's usual work you might be disappointed, but if you are willing to try something different from an accomplished author, you will be pleasantly surprised.

May the Best Man Win

In a future just around the corner, the United States is no longer united. Federalists and Free Nationalists are waging a second US Civil War, and the battle lines have been drawn.

When Bainbridge Carter meets up with David Evans, his ex-best friend, to get the prototype of a weapon that will allow them to level the playing field, he gets two surprises. The first is that David has gotten himself shot in one of his patented impatient and intemperate moments. The second is that David is playing a very deadly game.

As he lays dying, David reveals he has hidden the microchips necessary to control the rifle with Aurora, his wife, the woman both men have been in love with for the last 16 years, a woman trapped behind enemy lines with her daughter. It is up to Bain and the Free Nationalists to find the chips...and the woman that has them.

Hunter's Moon

“There were just a few little problems with tall, dark and sinfully-godlike. For one thing, he was bleeding all over himself.”

Xxan War 2: Mating Season

Zondra Daahn has hit her quickening with no warning. She's on the prowl for a male to sate her, unwilling to wait for a Xxan-mix male to be sent to her. Evan Duncan is just the overbearing, alpha male she needs. There are a few little problems, of course. She's the Fleet Admiral's goddaughter, and the powerful sex pheromones of her quickening may permanently tie Evan to her.

A Xxannian female has never mated with a human before, and Evan isn’t willing to take that chance that he can’t ripen her and give her children. If the only way Zondra can have a full life is to do so without him, that’s the way it’s going to be. Damn the dreams of her driving him insane. If he can convince himself not to stop by just to make sure she’s okay, this plan can work...can’t it?

Not if Zondra and her family have anything to say about it. She wants Evan, and the scientists at S.L.A.L. say there’s a way. Like all the females of her race, she will have the man she wants, no matter what she has to do to get him.

Magmon's Hunger
The Furian and Frial have maintained peace for millennia, though they are opposites. The Furian worship Magmon, god of fire and passion. Their lands stretch from the southern volcanic ring to the temperate north. They are ruled by a royal family. The Frial worship the goddess Frilan, a goddess of ice. Predictably, their lands stretch from the polar north to the temperate zone. They are ruled by a god vessel called the Ician. They are as different as can be.

Once every cen-centenial, the alliance is renegotiated and a celebration ensues. There's just one little thing that has to happen first. The Ician is reborn for her people every generation. The He-Atal, Magmon's god vessel, only appears for the cen-centenial. He is conceived at Magmon's celebration, born in the Dragon God's fire, consumed by His hunger, taken into the temple to be trained to survive the burn... And finally, he is presented to the Ician with one job and one job only: seduce a frigid woman.

I enjoyed how the story followed Karliss' life from birth until he meets Diama, sucessfully painting him as a real man with his own vulnerabilities and strengths of character, instead of just jumping into the meeting with Diama and what must necessarily ensue from that.
