This is the third installment of the Bloodlands series and it doesn't hold anything back. When we last left Gabriel, Mariah, and Chaplin they had just gone into a government complex and freed all the Preters and Reds. When they were there they found the Origin of all the monster species. This is the second installment after being introduced to Gabriel and Mariah. In this post epidemic world the monsters have come out of the closet. Gabriel is a new vampire, while Mariah is a werewolf. Both have to contend with their imprint on each other. Mariah is searching for a cure and finds a lot more than she bargained for.

It was called the New Badlands, home to the survivors of a cataclysm that altered the entire nation. Then the vampires arrived, and it was rechristened the Bloodlands. Not because of the vampire, but because of the gun-for-hire who'd decided to slay every monster in the country by any and every means necessary.
