Aliver, Corinn, Mena, and Dariel Akaran are the children of Leodan Akaran, the current king of the Acacian empire and are supposed to be spirited away in the event of a war erupting. One does, but not everything goes according to plan. And the children grow up in different parts of the Known World in different ways and learn (sooner and later) about their heritage, which isn't entirely pleasant.
