Blazing the Trail

From the author of the Dragonfire Novels comes a new series about the next generation of shape-shifting dragons—they’re ready to lead their pack. It’s almost Valentine’s Day, and Zoë Sorensson’s love life is heating up. Cute, loyal, and understanding, wolf shifter Derek is pretty much the perfect guy. He likes Zoë, and he knows what it’s like to have to keep a secret. Yet, Zoë can’t help but wish it was rebel rocker Jared asking her to the Valentine’s dance instead. But Jared’s too busy playing hot and cold with her heart, calling Zoë his dragon girl one minute and then taking special interest in her best friend the next. Zoë is just about ready to breathe fire, especially once she uncovers a new threat that targets her friends. Although Zoë thought the Mages were defeated, they’re back and have invoked an old spell to give them new power—they plan to eliminate all shape shifters on the night of the big dance. Now, Zoë must lead an alliance of young shifters to battle the Mages and figure out exactly what—and who—she wants, before it all goes up in smoke…

The Leaves

January 2011

Dear Reader;

On September 11, 2001, at nine in the morning, I was making tea in my kitchen and the radio was on. I heard the news report about a plane colliding with one of the World Trade Center towers. I assumed - as many did - that it was small aircraft and an accident. I turned off the radio, took my tea and sat down to work. Although I had intended to revise a contracted book that was coming due, much to my surprise, this story fell out of my fingertips instead. By 10, it was done. I went to get more tea and listened to the news again, which was when I learned of the terrorist attack in New York.

I’d never written a creepy short story like this one, and in fact, I hadn’t written a short story in a long time. This piece was darker than the stories I’d been telling, and it wasn’t a romance. I wasn’t entire sure what to do with it, so I just saved it and pretty much forgot about it. Because it was so different in tone from my previous work, I had to think that there had been something wicked in the air that morning and somehow I’d caught a whiff of it.

Over the years, I would rediscover this short story – usually when backing up files or transferring data to different computers - read it and enjoy it again. Recently, I came across it once more, but now I can see it as the first piece in a stream of darker work. It has similarities to both my vampire short story “Coven of Mercy” and to the post-nuclear pre-Apocalyptic trilogy published by Tor which I call The Prometheus Project. (Those titles are FALLEN, GUARDIAN, and REBEL, all published under the name Claire Delacroix.)

I don’t think there’s any doubt that the world did change on September 11, 2001, and that in many ways, it did become a darker place. Or maybe our tolerance for looking into the shadows has increased.

This dark short story has never been published, previous to this digital release.

It is NOT a romance.

Deborah Cooke's latest release, Winging It is another fantastic addition to her YA series, The Dragon Diaries, that I believe YA readers will love. Ms. Cooke has written a charmingly enchanted story that captures the trials of being a teenager and blends it with the problems of being a magical one. Her characters are well thought out, believable and intelligent. The storyline is intriguing, interesting and f

This author hit the nail on the head with the title, "Flying Blind." The reader is introduced to Zoe, your "typical" teenager. Until you start reading. Zoe is anything, but typical. This is the first of the Dragonfire series. I picked this series up out of curiosity since there are not a lot of books out there about dragon shape shifters.   Sara Keegan was an accountant in a fast paced job with not a lot of time for a personal life. When her great aunt passed, she left Sara her New Age bookstore. Sara traded her cold job for the only place that had ever felt like home. Closing up
