Bitter Night
SOMETIMES YOU CHOOSE YOUR BATTLES. AND SOMETIMES, THEY CHOOSE YOU...
Once, Max dreamed of a career, a home, a loving family. Now all she wants is freedom...and revenge. A witch named Giselle transformed Max into a warrior with extraordinary strength, speed, and endurance. Bound by spellcraft, Max has no choice but to fight as Giselle's personal magic weapon — a Shadowblade — and she's lethally good at it. But her skills are about to be put to the test as they never have before....
The ancient Guardians of the earth are preparing to unleash widespread destruction on the mortal world, and they want the witches to help them. If the witches refuse, their covens will be destroyed, including Horngate, the place Max has grudgingly come to think of as home. Max thinks she can find a way to help Horngate stand against the Guardians, but doing so will mean forging dangerous alliances — including one with a rival witch's Shadowblade, who is as drawn to Max as she is to him — and standing with the witch she despises. Max will have to choose between the old life she still dreams of and the warrior she has become, and take her place on the side of right — if she survives long enough to figure out which side that is....

Diana Pharoah Francis creates a fascinating world in the urban fantasy Bitter Night, a Hornsgate Witches novel. A disturbing and complex relationship exists between Max, a Shadowblade, and the witch who transformed her but this has to be subsumed to the greater struggle against beings called Guardians who are threatening to destroy most of the sentient beings in the world in order to restore the flow of

This fantastic series of books include: The Cipher; The Black Ship; and, The Turning Tide. Trust me, once you read one, you will be addicted to the rest. With this newest work, readers are once again pulled into one of the most original worlds ever created since George Lucas brought us his Empire and Rebellion in the 1970’s.
If unfamiliar with this story, Crosspointe is what y

They were the best of friends: Ryland, the son of the king, is bound by loyalty. Shaye is both a majicar and a Weverton, both rebellious factions. Fairlie, a fiery metal-smith, is the iron bond that held them all together. Until now.
Crosspointe’s greatest advantage at sea is its ship’s compasses—but the compass makers are dying. Without them, Crosspointe will fall. To save his country and repel the coming Jutras invasion, the king orders Ryland to commit an unforgivable act. And soon Ryland, Shaye, and Fairlie find themselves at war…with each other.

They had grown up together, three friends that were in all likelihood should have never been friends. Ryland is the son of the king and is torn between his duty to the crown and his own desires. Shaye is a journeyman majicar who probably is more skilled than he’s given credit for but doesn’t want to study for his master’s test. He was born into a wealthy merchant family and hi
The Black Ship: A Novel of Crosspointe
Thorn is a member of the Pilot's Guild-those who possess the magical ability to navigate Crosspointe's deadly seas. When a malevolent master within the Guild bans him from the sea, it seems his life is over. Then he is kidnapped and forced to serve aboard the rogue ship Eidolon-pitch black from bow to stern-and Thorn finds himself battling a mad captain, a mutinous crew, and the terrifying magic of the sea.
But there is a saboteur on board, trying to make sure the Eidolon never arrives safely in port. Thorn begins to realize his kidnapping may have been no mere chance- and that the cargo the black ship carries may seal his doom . . .

Thorn's story was mesmerizing from the outset. Even without the court intrigue, the workings of his head and the Pilot's guild was enough to make for an outstanding story. Add in the very interesting character of Plusby and the charmers whose cause Thorn championed, it has all the makings of an epic tale. It doesn't disappoint either. The story was fast-paced and it seemed as if the plot took a new twist ever
