Plague Zone was, for me, a little better read than Plague War, but that might be due to being familiar with the set-up. While it is preferable to read the books in sequence, each can, I think, also be read independently of each other.
I would have liked seeing more shown from both sides into the whys and wherefores of finding the 'next step' within the nanotech viruses - whether it concerns the viruses

While it took me a bit to get into the book, I found Plague War to be a very good read. Part of it is that I found the characters and situation believable - not only within geographic and psychological frames, but within the scientific and socio-economic frames as well.
