Before I Fall by Lauren Oliver starts out with Samantha Kingston going about her everyday life like normal. She wakes up late to her little sister telling her to hurry and is picked up by her friends on their way to school. They talk about who will get the most roses for Cupid Day and other everyday teenage things. She is then invited to a party by a dorky boy she used to be friends with but isn't any longer.
