The Council of Shadows

I have mixed feelings about the book. I liked the writing, Mr. Stirling's twist on the vampire and shifter legends, and the conflicts - both personal and "bigger picture". What could possibly be wrong with that combination? Nothing really and it is because of that that I would be certain to pick up Mr. Stirling's other work and read more because there was something about this book that didn't entirely appea

The High King of Montival

The New York Times bestselling author continues his post- apocalyptic series chronicling a modern world without technology.

With The Sword of the Lady, Rudi Mackenzie's destiny was determined. Now he returns to Montival in the Pacific Northwest, where he will face the legions of the Prophet. To achieve victory, Rudi must assemble a coalition of those who had been his enemies a few months before and forge them into an army that will rescue his homeland.

Only then will Rudi be able to come to terms with how the Sword has changed him, as well as the world, and assume his place as Artos, High King of Montival...

I admit I jumped into this book without having read the previous books in this series as I have read other books by S. M. Stirling and liked them. . . a lot. With that in mind I will say as a result I was a bit bewildered by the depth in plot. The wording used was a little bit difficult (there are several different cultures as well as time periods to be aware). However, what I DID like was the different varia

A Taint in the Blood

Eons ago, another species ruled the planet. Once supreme, this proud race is now reduced to a minority half-breed group. Adrian Breze is one of these vestiges, more Shadowspawn than human, but about to confront a decision that in either case, will set him against those of his own blood. A mass-market original; the first in a new urban fantasy series. (Hand-selling tip: Take the word of Harry Turtledove: "Nobody wrecks a world better than S.M. Stirling.)

An eerily evil novel masquerading as one of S.M. Stirling’s characteristic alternate reality stories, A Taint In the Blood tells the story of a human pawn caught between two Shadowspawn who each find her incredibly attractive.  The spine-chilling systematic destruction of Ellen Tarnowski’s psyche and self-image to convert her into a desirable “lucy” is meticulously described.

The Scourge of God

Book 2 of S.M. Stirling's series "The Sunrise Lands", to be published in 2008. These books are set in the same world as the "Dies the Fire" trilogy.

It's Change Year 23, a generation after high-energy technology died in a catastrophe most of the human race didn't survive.
The children born after the Change are now starting to take center stage—and Whoever or Whatever was behind the Change itself may be taking a hand in their rivalries. An expedition has set out to travel to Nantucket across a strange and hostile continent to find some answers.

This book is a sequel to "The Sunrise Lands" and will be followed by "The Sword of the Lady" and "The High King".

High adventure of the type that myths and legends are made of, that is where Rudi MacKenzie finds himself in this portion of the saga. Without technology, men and women are left to face life in both its best and worst forms with little more than bows and arrows to aid them. The Change has brought out some of mankind’s greatest qualities and some of its meanest. Stirling brings both sides, along with our
