In the year 1147, Queen Eleanor and King Louis traverse to Jerusalem for the Second Crusade. Along with her fancy bedding and wine, the wily young queen brings five lovely and talented women: her spies.

Among them is the beautiful widow Isabella de Lacey, whose duty is to infiltrate Emperor Manuel’s inner circle and skillfully extract information. Will he aid the queen’s cousin or betray the alliance for one with the Turks?

To find out, Isabella must woo the emperor’s man, Raoul, whose soul is as black as his eyes and whose passion both terrifies and captivates her.

Boadicea's Legacy

Ela Montahue is a talented sorceress descended from Boadicea, the legendary warrior queen of the Iceni tribe. She has the miraculous power to heal but, years before her birth, Boadicea issued a decree that Ela must marry for love not political practicality, or she will forfeit her supernatural power. Marrying Lord Thomas de Havel, the vile landowner with connections to King John's court, would benefit Ela's family tremendously, but would strip her of her miraculous gift. When Ela refuses the repulsive marriage proposal of Lord de Havel, he abducts her and wages battle against her father in retaliation. Knight Osbert Edyvean, who has been paid to find Boadicea’s spear, rescues Ela instead and must fight his overwhelming passion for a beautiful lady he wants to protect and love.

Galiana Montehue is sought after for her great beauty. She despairs ever finding true love, for all men seen to get stupid the moment they lay eyes on her. When her parents leave her in charge of the keep while they go to visit her sister, she is thrilled with the chance to show that she is mature and responsible enough for the task. Love's Magic

It is 1192. Celestia Montehue is the odd-eyed misfit in a family of flame-haired goddesses descended from notorious Queen Boadicea. While her sisters are tall and beautiful, she, the eldest, is blond and petite, with one green and one blue eye. The only thing she has in common with the family legend is her magical healing ability. Constantly fighting for her place among her siblings, she refuses to settle for less than her due. Coming to accept no one will ever be able to love her for who she is, she vows never to marry.

Nicholas Le Blanc is a haunted man. Though trained as a knight under the Baron Peregrine's name, his childhood in a monastery has convinced him he is a bastard. Then, on crusade, his caravan is ambushed; all men are lost and the sacred relic they carried is stolen. Nicholas is captured and suffers a year of torture, ultimately escaping . . . but only after being forced to kill a woman to win his freedom. Guilt poisons him as surely as the hidden wounds in his soul.

An arranged marriage does not bode happiness for the two tortured souls. Nor does Celestia's new home, a broken down keep-haunted by the ghost of Nicholas' mother, a suicide-and a stagnant green moat. Then a maid is murdered and a curse revealed. Worse, Celestia has fallen in love with her tormented husband. Will they both be doomed? Or is there healing, indeed, in Love's Magic?

I really enjoyed this story of how Celestia healed and tamed Nicholas. It was easy to see how apt the title was for the book - it was lovely to see how Celestia used her talents to forge a relationship with Nicholas. I did think it odd that Celestia has such low self-esteem when it seemed that her character was portrayed as such perfection. In fact, it got to be a bit grating at times, when that dichotomy ove
