A NIGHT OWL REVIEWS BOOK REVIEW | Reviewed by: Barb

I really enjoyed this book. The premise was very interesting and full of conflicts. I was amazed at how many troubling spots the main characters got themselves into and out of.

Odessa at first seemed to be a very strong woman, but then there were times when I thought she was really inept and insecure. I think the clash between the two personalities was what made Odessa interesting. I also think that this is representative of the times during which this story takes place. Women were thought to be the weaker sex, and yet they are the ones who pulled their men along to accomplish incredible things.

Zach was a study in emerging maturity. His decision to go to illegal lengths to get money to pay for his father's ranch seemed a bit immature. However, along the way, with Odessa to guide him, however unwittingly, he made a big transformation. He was a gentleman to her, wanted to go on with his life, but stayed with her to see her to safety. And the rest, as they say, is history.

The whole story kept me interested from beginning to end. I recommend this book for a delightful excursion into the Arizona of the past. The descriptions of the scenery were very vivid and placed me right there alongside the main characters. I think you'd like to read this book.

Book Blurb for Odessa

When the wagon carrying Odessa Clay and her father overturns, he is killed. She is left alone in the middle of the desert to try to find her way to kin in Phoenix. Hot, dry and scared, Odessa is near death when Zach Johnson finds her. Squinting up into his tanned and handsome face, she imagines she’s died and gone to heaven.

Would-be-outlaw, Zach comes across an unconscious woman alone in the middle of nowhere. Where did she come from? She appears young, but the curves beneath the dusty gingham say otherwise. He didn’t plan to become someone’s hero, but he cannot leave her helpless and stranded.

Will the promise of Odessa’s sweet lips lure Zach from the secret mission that has his gut twisted into a knot? His father’s ranch isn’t the only thing at stake—now it’s his heart, too.

Includes a western recipe by chef, Don Tomsa.
