A NIGHT OWL REVIEWS BOOK REVIEW | Reviewed by: Christy Carlyle

The Paris Secret by Angela Henry grabbed me from the first paragraph and kept me turning pages long into the night. The novel offers the perfect blend of adventure, mystery, and romance. The pace is swift, the characters likable, and the mystery rich and interesting, without being too complex or detailed. The blend of history and intrigue in Paris was irresistible.

In the novel, librarian Maya Sinclair makes the gutsy decision to take a solo trip to Paris, after the boyfriend who was meant to accompany her ends their relationship. Determined to enjoy herself, Maya is undeterred when a scheduling snafu means sharing her Paris hotel room with an unfriendly professor from Stanford. However, Maya's world is turned upside down when, within hours of her arrival in Paris, her roommate is found dead and Maya is suspected of the murder.

Determined to unmask the real killer and prove her innocence, Maya joins forces with a sexy French journalist with his own investment in the case. They are soon on the trail of a centuries old mystery and a modern day murderer. Amidst the tension of being pursued and piecing together the mystery, their attraction blooms.

I was particularly impressed with the pacing of The Paris Secret. It never waned. In addition, the dialogue was fresh and witty, the descriptions of various landmarks around Paris vibrant, and the weaving of the historical mystery behind the murders deft. The Paris Secret is a fun, fast, sexy read, yet it kept me guessing until the end.
