A NIGHT OWL REVIEWS BOOK REVIEW | Reviewed by: Diana Coyle
FBI Special Agent Malina Blair was once on the fast track to being labeled a top-notch agent. Now she’s a cold-case officer stationed temporarily in the backwoods of South Carolina trying to solve a smuggling investigation on Palmer Island. While on assignment, she meets attorney Carr Hamilton who wants to assist in her investigation. Malina wants to solve this case as quickly as possible so she can hopefully return to being the rising-star agent she was becoming, but Carr just doesn’t seem to get the hint that she likes working alone.
Finally giving into him charm, she allows him to assist in finding some necessary information to help crack this case. Along the way an attraction builds between these two and it’s just impossible for them to ignore what they’re feeling for each other. But as the case starts coming together they both must deal with plenty of twists and turns along the way.
Does Malina solve the case and leave behind what she started with? Do they have what it takes to have a successful relationship after all is said and done?
I have to honestly say that I was extremely disappointed with this story overall. I personally felt that the characters were bland and unbelievably boring to me which made reading this story a task. Considering that the author decided to make this storyline based around a smuggling investigation, I felt that the story idea was a good one, but the plot just weighed it down for me. Sadly, this story just didn’t entertain me as I was hoping it would.
