Lady Gwendolyn of Wessex has grown up with wealthy, scholarly Saxon parents that taught her to have a voice. This is odd because the time is 885 A.D. and women have been taught to be mild-mannered, sweet and very docile. Gwendolyn is different in every way and she stands out because of it. When her parents died, she then came under the care of a noble that watched over her.
Time elapses and the countryside is being raided by Norse warriors and Gwendolyn tries everything within her power to not be caught. Unfortunately though, once their leader, Wulf Geirsson, lays his eyes on her, he knows he wants her. He’s attracted to her beauty and her feistiness and will do whatever it takes to have her.
Now, the Saxons and another Norse lord are after them both and they must come to an understanding together if they want to survive.
Do they come to a mutual understanding together and survive the raids? Does Gwendolyn begin to have feelings for Wulf? If so, could they make it work together?
This was a wonderful historical story that had believable characters and an entertaining storyline. Ms. Rock transported me to a different time and had me believing these characters were real people. I saw everything unfold before me as if I was there in person. She did a fantastic job pulling me into this novel and she held me until the very end. If you are in the market for a new historical read that has a few sexy characters that you don’t mind falling in love with, then you have found the perfect match with this one!
