Alana Hawthorne is a kind hearted person and constantly looks out for younger sister, Melanie and their grandparents. She feels responsible for her sister because their mother wasn’t the type of mom she should have been. When things got too out of hand, their grandparents took over raising the girls. Now, since the grandparents are old, Alana feels it’s her duty to give back and take care of them. The only thing is they live in Florida while Alana lives Chicago. Without much more thought about it, Alana gives up her job and residence to make a fresh start in Florida to be with her grandparents.
Just before heading to the Sunshine State, she speaks with Melanie and her sister tells her about her new “boyfriend.” You see, Melanie has a habit of picking out the wrong type of guy and she continually gets her heart broken. Now, supposedly, she has found Mr. Right and can’t stop telling Alana all about him. But something in Alana’s gut is telling her to go visit Melanie because she just doesn’t believe her sister is suddenly a changed person.
Arriving at their grandparents’ former house in Milwaukee, Alana is dead tired. She heads to her old bedroom and decides that she needs to get some sleep. She takes some ibuprofen for her headache and a sleeping pill then heads to bed. Before she knows it, she’s sound asleep. The next morning she stumbles through one mix up after another, and she finds that she accidentally slept in the same bed as Melanie’s boyfriend, Sawyer Kern. If that wasn’t bad enough, they seem to have had sex during the night too when they were both very much not feeling in their right mind. When Melanie sees her sister for the first time that morning and finds out that Alana is not only checking up on her, but has slept with Sawyer, the situation turns into an all out mishap adventure for the three of them.
What happens when Melanie finds out the truth that Alana and Sawyer slept together? Was Melanie telling Alana the whole truth about Sawyer? What were Sawyer’s thoughts about what was going on between the two sisters? Does Alana finally move to Florida with her grandparents or do her plans change?
I enjoyed this entertaining story and loved getting to know Alana, Melanie and Sawyer. One crazy turn after another and I found myself laughing out loud over the mess they got themselves into. I was hoping that everything worked out for everyone, but I honestly didn’t know how the author was going to play it out until the very end. I loved guessing what might be happening in the future and I fully enjoyed how Ms. Sharpe tied everything up. I see that there is a sequel story coming out based on Melanie and I’d love to see what kind of trouble she’ll get herself into again. This book is definitely worth picking up and getting lost in for a few hours!
