Mace has returned home after being so deep undercover that he doesn’t realize that his sister has gotten married and is away on her honeymoon. Weary and in pain from his almost fatal wound, he looks forward to finally being able to let his guard down in a safe haven only to have a gun pointed at him the minute he walks into his house. Colby Parks has had her own trials and tribulations over the past couple of years and has jumped at the chance to house-sit for a friend while renovating an old house that she has fallen in love with. The initial meeting at gunpoint degenerates as each tries to hide the scars of his or her past while struggling to overcome their mutual attraction. Each of them has to learn that outward appearances can be deceiving and he is no more an escaped prisoner than she is a construction worker. The sinister shadows from their pasts reach out to threaten them as their explosively sensual relationship intensifies and they must decide whether they trust each other enough to overcome all of the obstacles in their way.
Banged up is an entertaining read although I expected Colby to put her intellect and her training to better use each time she is threatened and there are a few unanswered questions remaining but overall still an enjoyable story.
