A NIGHT OWL REVIEWS BOOK REVIEW | Reviewed by: Edie
Sarah’s husband died in a car accident a year ago, leaving Sarah alone to run the gift shop they founded. Ultimately, his death was considered a suicide and his life insurance payout withheld. Struggling to cope with the reality of his death, their shop in a financially precarious position, Sarah did not need the hassle she received from her former sister-in-law and an ex-boyfriend from high school.
Most of all, she did not need the robbery that threatened the continued existence of the boutique. Increasingly aware people and circumstances were conspiring against her; Sarah realized she was in a fight for her very life.
Into the mix came Police Detective Randy Detweiler who thought the thief might be someone who was committing numerous robberies around the state. Randy sifts through the clues knowing his growing attraction to Sarah could derail the investigation. In the meantime, it becomes obvious Sarah’s life is in danger. When she goes missing, Randy puts his own job in jeopardy as he tries to save the life of a woman he has grown to love.
Terry Odell has written an intriguing tale of a woman trying to rebuild her life after a devastating loss. The plot is fast paced, the events deftly mixed with the conflicting emotions of those who find themselves moving toward an inevitable collision. A surprising turn of events keeps the reader from truly understanding the depth of betrayal Sarah has experienced until a strong and combustible conclusion.

Being robbed at gunpoint wasn't part of Sarah Tucker's business plan. Neither was falling in love with the detective who arrived to solve the case.
All Sarah wants is success for her gift boutique, the one she and her husband created. Now, she's living a hand-to-mouth existence. Her husband died a year earlier in a car accident — an accident that was ruled suicide, denying her his life insurance money. Burdened by guilt that she was somehow to blame for his death, Sarah faces one business setback after another. She's determined to succeed on her own, fending off a meddling sister-in-law as well as offers of financial assistance from a former boyfriend. Unaware someone is setting her up for failure, she's totally unprepared to find herself fighting for survival.
Police Detective Randy Detweiler thinks the crook is a thief who's been evading cops all over the state. A routine robbery investigation turns into the biggest challenge of his career when he falls in love with the victim and he starts crossing professional boundaries. When Sarah disappears, he's afraid all his detective skills might not be enough to find her in time to save her life.
