A NIGHT OWL REVIEWS BOOK REVIEW | Reviewed by: Lilyraines

Alec Sumner is a recent transplant to London. He moved there after his last break up and he wants to have a new start and to forget his ex-partner.  A start on that happens when, one day, he is out shopping with a friend and sees a man that draws his attention at a cafe nearby.  While Alec finds the man intriguing, little does he know that the man, who he comes to know a few minutes later has blue eyes and uses a cane, will have an impact on his life.

Eli Burke thinks he is broken - physically because of his bad leg and scars and emotionally because of the memories that continue to live and breathe of the life he had and the lover that he lost to the same attack that left him scarred.  He would like to do what Alec has already done - move away to a place that does not leave him haunted by the memories.  He would like to do that in Africa and to spend his time there working with kids.  It is when one of the people who owns the house with him rents out a room to Alec that Eli sees that there might be a different path to take.

But will they be able to face their fears and move on? Will they be able to overcome their pasts or will they let the past destroy any hope of a future.

I found Broken to be a moving read about loss, love, trying to move on, being trapped by memories that may not want to let go and finding that one special person that let's you find the good within the past. It is a story about finding your way out of sadness and knowing that your partner knows your strengths and weaknesses and is there to hold you and say "It's okay" when you're down.

Alec Sumner is fleeing yet another broken heart. By moving to London, he hopes to find peace and a fresh start. While shopping with a friend on a busy London street, he sees his chance, embodied in a mysterious young man with soulful blue eyes and a bad leg.

Eli Burke is broken in his own way, haunted by memories of his lover’s murder and physically scarred from the same fatal assault. He, too, plans to run away—to Africa and a new life working with children. But when he meets Alec, his choice isn't so easy. He and Alec see the real possibility of new love and a brighter future, but they'll both have to face their fears of past pain and find a way to heal.
