A NIGHT OWL REVIEWS BOOK REVIEW | Reviewed by: Lilyraines

At its core, Thank You, Mrs. M. is a story of a young man who has his college education, as well as room and board for his siblings, paid for in exchange for doing an hour's worth of recording on a tape recorder. In the beginning, he answers the questionnaire that "Mrs. M" has sent him. As the story progresses he talks more about how his day goes, who he sees and how his education has progressed. One "thing" the reader learns is that he has a tutor at school and that, as time goes on, something more develops.

Throughout the story, the reader learns who Ben is, how he interacts with his family, and how he grows and blossoms. The reader sees how Ben changes as he learns more about the world beyond what he knew in his old neighborhood and how he still remains the same - through his love of family, love of learning, and, yes, love of a certain lady.

Thank You, Mrs. M. is a wonderful read. One enjoyable aspect was learning of the give and take between the characters as seen from Ben's viewpoint when he sends his recordings and, at times, his E-Mails.  Another was seeing how the characters grew and changed as their circumstances changed.  This is a poignant and enjoyable read.

Book Blurb for Thank You, Mrs. M

“You want honesty. An hour’s worth a day of normal speech, nothing prepared is necessary. Yeah, okay. But I’m pretty certain I’m not supposed to talk normally. No fucking way, because every other fucking word is fuck… I’ll tone it down for you, okay? I assume you’re an old lady with some style. For you, I can stop.”

I just wanted that effing college education and you said you’d pay for it…along with just about everything else. The cost—my effing life’s story jabbered into a digital recorder just for you. How screwed is that? The thing is, I wasn’t the only one telling a story. You tried to hide from me. Too bad I’m smart, Mrs. Moneybags, and I got you figured. But know what? I can keep your secrets. You and me—we made it work.
