A NIGHT OWL REVIEWS BOOK REVIEW | Reviewed by: Melinda

Joe Russo is a famous gangster and everybody in Las Vegas knows he’s the grand man of mobsters especially for the Oasis casino. If you mess with Joe you get the wrath of his daughter Eva. When tragedy strikes Eva is determined to make things right in her family. Sometimes she hates being a gangster and tries to be good. Yet this tragedy just blew her up into supreme diva gangster. Everyone around her tells her to stop the scheme but she needs to bring out the rat that did it. She knows in her gut the rat is Dave “The Sheik” DeSantis but needs to prove it in some way. The Oasis is not her usual casino but it has sentimental value and no way is a rat like him going to be full owner. They say she is a gangster at heart and she is going to prove to everyone you don’t mess with the Russo’s and stay alive.

Dave “The Sheik” DeSantis is on cloud nine. Finally his years of servitude to the righteous Russo’s are finally at an end. The only problem is Eva. He is known as the Sheik for so many reasons but like a sheik in the desert he knows how to hide his tracks. The only problem is that everyone around him doesn’t believe he can outsmart a Russo. Eva is definitely a woman he would have gone for but knows if he did he would be a dead sheik. The Oasis has been his life for the last fifteen years and no Russo wannabe was going to take it away from him. Eva’s fiancé Vincent is one man in his way along with the head honcho. Can he outsmart three people or be buried in the sand?

Man oh man move over Jackie Collins for Susan DiPlacido sure knows how to write gangsta. From the beginning you can see the frustration and sympathy for Eva Russo. Here is a woman born into gangster life but trying so hard to be a normal woman. She has a great guy in Vinny and a career in art but one man, Dave “The Sheik” DeSantis is changing all that in one split second. Vinny is her whole life, Joe is her father and only one who really loved her but Dave is a rat trying to get her bad side out in public. I loved that though she maybe a gangster’s daughter she tries to be something else so hard. The scenes of Las Vegas were great in this story, the tension of whose going to get the Oasis was awesome and all the characters from her previous books appear here. That was the great part seeing Marina, Miguel, Lisa, Val and Vinny were a treat to read about. If you haven’t read her series you should go get them.
