The vampire Henri Baptiste goes to the countryside to visit a very ill former lover, and is shocked to find her handsome, shirtless son Nathan, who's in danger from the vampire Bellario who wants him for his special power: the ability to draw emotions away. This book is a prequel to others in Ms. Armstrong's BLOODLINES series, but never once did I feel like I was lacking anything necessary to understand the plot or characters. The only thing I would have liked a little more of was Bellario's uses for Nathan's power. His reasoning is explained, but briefly, and it would have been good to see what he had planned for the world at large once he had Nathan. Otherwise, the conflict takes some very nice and unexpected turns, and it definitely kept me looking forward to the next page. The sex scenes are definitely sizzling, and the tantalizing pace of them made me tingle with anticipation. Nathan and Henri are well-drawn, as are the two villains, so we get a good idea of what everybody wants and is fighting for. It's great to have a book where the sex between two gorgeous guys is hot and frequent but it's not the only thing at stake. I will definitely be checking out more of Ms. Armstrong's work in the future, and recommend it for anyone looking for some sexy vampire action, and even if you're not a vampire fan, go ahead and pick this up. You won't regret it!
