A NIGHT OWL REVIEWS BOOK REVIEW | Reviewed by: Rosemary
6 years ago Kyle's wife walked out the door leaving him with divorce papers on the kitchen table and their 6 month old daughter, Callie, in order to pursue her acting career. A year ago Betsy's husband went to work as a fire-fighter and never came home. Both of them are scarred by the past, but will it color their future?
Since her husband died Betsy's been unable to write, and her agent and publisher want a book, now. When a picture in a bookstore calendar catches her eye she finds herself leaving New York and heading to Paxton Bridge in Cedar Creek, Illinois. There she meets Kyle in the park but he's almost immediately called away to deal with an attempted robbery in the bank.
She ends up meeting a fan at a book store who gives her an idea and some motivation to get on with her next book and decides to move to Cedar Creek to write it and she ends up renting the house next door to Kyle and Callie.
However the bank robbery Kyle and his colleagues interrupted was only a small part of a much bigger and darker plan. Can they both overcome prejudices of the past, which for Kyle includes worrying about what might happen to his daughter, sort out the problems of their relationship and take down the criminals haunting this small town?
This was a well written story that grabbed me right from the beginning. The relationship of the characters progressed quite quickly and sometimes it did feel that perhaps it was too fast but as the book was 217 pages it made sense.

Book Blurb for A Mom for Callie
Betsy Anderson isn't the sort of woman to leave home and travel 1,200 miles because of a feeling. But something about the photo of a certain bridge in Cedar Creek has stirred up buried emotions. And meeting gorgeous cop Kyle Brennan--a man with the broadest shoulders she's ever seen in or out of uniform--awakens feelings of a deliciously different kind....
All Kyle wants is to serve and protect his Illinois small town and be a good father to his young daughter. Now Betsy's making the guarded single dad realize he wants more...a lot more. If only the plucky widow weren't so gun-shy about trusting her heart to another law-enforcement officer. Is Betsy ready to take a risk--maybe the biggest one of all?
