A NIGHT OWL REVIEWS BOOK REVIEW | Reviewed by: Tamazon
Freaky * Exhilarating * Utterly Fabulous
The Replacement is one of those books that you see the cover and you go oh my. I wonder what this is about or you turn away quickly. With the scene of a baby carriage under a tree with items like a knife and scissors hanging down is a bit freaky for anyone. What you get is an entertaining story that is for all points odd…but good. Ms. Yavanoff writes a unique tale, one that is unexpected and fabulous for being so different.
The author, Brenna Yavanoff, introduces us to a cast of characters in the small town of Gentry. The main character is a young odd boy named Mackie. Mackie is not your typical boy. He was switched at birth with another child. Yes there was a witness to the change…the other child in the house saw it happen. But now Mackie is her brother for all intents and purposes. Now Mackie is having a hard time keeping his secret safe. He’s not a real boy at all but something from “down below”. He has a major allergy to metal and someone is ferreting out information about him. Will he be able to keep things a secret and what would happen if someone found out he just isn’t normal…not even a little bit normal?

Book Blurb for The Replacement
Mackie is not one of us. Though he lives in the small town of Gentry, he comes from a world of tunnels and black murky water, a world of living dead girls ruled by a little tattooed princess.
He is a Replacement — left in the crib of a human baby sixteen years ago. Now, because of fatal allergies to iron, blood, and consecrated ground, Mackie is slowly dying in the human world.
Mackie would give anything to live among us. He just wants to play bass guitar and find out more about an oddly intriguing girl named Tate.
But when Tate’s baby sister goes missing, Mackie is drawn irrevocably into the underworld of Gentry, known as Mayhem.
He must face the dark creatures of the slag heaps and find his rightful place, in our world, or theirs.
