The Spurned Viscountess is a refreshed version of Second Seduction revised by Shelley Munro. The story centers around Lucien, a man recently returned to Castle St. Clare with a secret agenda. Although, Lucien suffers from amnesia, he is plotting to avenge the death of his wife Francesca. Rosalind, has come to Castle St. Clare to marry Lucien. She is a woman who is gifted with the sight and sadly, often accused of witchcraft. Lucien represents her only chance at a normal life and children, but with his agenda set on avenging the past he has no intention of ever having a true marriage with his new wife.
Rosalind turns out to be not quite the mouse Lucien thought he was marrying, and a woman that is both intriguing and filled with a deep well of inner strength. Though she doesn’t understand all of what is going on in Castle St. Clare and though Lucien is an even deeper mystery to her, Rosalind is fighting for her marriage and future. She refuses to give up in the face of adversity. Through her strength, perseverance and gentle heart, Lucien cannot help but be moved by his new bride. It is only a matter of time before Lucien must decide to follow where his heart is now leading him or stay mired in the past that can only lead to ruin.
Shelley Munro’s revised story is a beautiful, adventurous tale of the strength of love and forgiveness. Set in 1720 England, the landscape is so well defined that the reader is immediately drawn back to the past. With hints of a gothic story, the tale moves along at a quick pace with hints of mystery and a very satisfying romance. The characters are evocative with the reader quickly sympathizing with Rosalind and Lucien, though troubled by the past, is definitely a hero of the first order.
