A NIGHT OWL REVIEWS BOOK REVIEW | Reviewed by: Zollyanna

Allen Pendale and Clarissa Onslowe are both on their way to the Caribbean. Allen to visit his father and Clarissa is going to be a Governess to LeMarchand's daughter Celia. Clarissa also wants to learn how to be a courtesan as well and enlists Allen as her instructor. Throughout the voyage Allen teaches Clarissa the erotic arts. Allen also advises her that once they land on the island that if she should need the services of a lawyer he would provide them as well since he is an accomplished one. Allen seems to fall for Clarissa and she for him until they reach the island and she becomes employed by LeMarchand. She sends a note to Pendale to come and draw up the papers for her to become LeMarchand's mistress, so they can enter into their relationship. Clarissa senses that Allen is a bit upset and angry and when she questions him on it he tells her she should know why he is upset. Then he pours his heart out to her and asks her to marry him right on the spot before she signs the papers that LeMarchand has sent back down with a small package of beautiful jewels. She refuses letting him know that he should have known that their relationship was strictly during the voyage. He blows up saying that all women are just alike give them jewelry and they will fall at your feet. After Pendale leaves she looks at the small note that LeMarchand sent with the jewels and remarks that how they look like stars and the note makes comment to the moon and stars as well and she thinks that he was listening and paying attention to her in their conversation a few nights before. So it was that she became LeMarchand's Mistress and was happy being so, but did not know that he has been making passes at Allen as well. Pendale doesn't quite know what to do when this happens and has brushed away all of his advances up until the night that they all go skinny dipping after dinner They all seem a bit tipsy and they wind up in a m‚nage et toi on the beach. They later find out that LeMarchand is dieing of a bad heart and that it can't have too much stress on it, or too much excitement as it could kill him. Pendale offers his services to LeMarchand if he needs to get his affairs in order, and LeMarchand asks him to go over a few things for him to make sure. Clarissa is completely upset over this and promises him whatever he will to keep him company and comfortable. Pendale arrives home from LeMarchand's for a short time to speak with his father about his true origin, and finds things he doesn't want to know about.

Book Blurb for Forbidden Shores

In the tropical paradise of nineteenth-century Barbados, two powerful men and one beautiful woman are drawn into a passion that will tie them together-and possibly destroy them...

Allen Pendale only meant to entertain himself during his long voyage to the Caribbean when he shamelessly offered to tutor the beautiful Clarissa Onslowe in the sensual arts. He never expected to fall in love with her, or that his erotic instruction would lead her into the life of a courtesan-and win her the affections of another man.

Used to getting his way, wealthy plantation owner Lord Lemarchand-otherwise known as March-will let nothing come between himself and Clarissa, the seductress who's aroused every fiber of his being. Not even if it means destroying everything in his path, including the woman he loves.

Bound together by chains of desire, passion, jealousy, and betrayal, this fragile triangle will be forced to face the ecstasy of their desire, along with the perils of their forbidden passion. And if Clarissa can't bring herself to give up her nightly pleasures, her dangerously sensual ways will bring about her downfall.
