Redwood bend is the first Robyn Carr book I've had the opportunity to read. I've definetly been missing out on the work of an incredible author.
Dylan Childress (pilot, biker, rancher and ex-child movie star) is on vacation with two of his closest friends. They're cruising the back roads of Virgin River on their Harleys when they come across Katie Malone, and her two children, stranded with a flat tire. Little did Dylan know one good deed would irrevocably change his life. Dylan grew up in Hollywood and with too many step-fathers, step-mothers, half- and step-siblings to count, he's convinced his DNA is faulty and he'd never make a good father or husband, so he's not even willing to try.
Military Widow, Katie Malone and her twin sons are moving to Virgin to be closer to her brother, the only father figure the five-year-olds have ever known. Katie has only ever loved once in her life, and he died serving our country. Though she's tried to move on over the past five years, she's never met someone worth taking the plunge with. Until Dylan. But she understands the score, and knows Dylan's background, because just like every other pre-teen she had a crush on the teen idol, too.
Knowing Dylan is only in town for a couple days they agree to one-night of no-strings-attached sex. But one night isn't enough when it's far more than just sex. And so one turns into two, and two turns into a week and so forth. hopes and dreams begin to form. and then suddenly Dylan is gone, because he has a failing business to save, and employees who are much more like family to protect.
Yet he's miserable without her and the boys. And she's heartbroken and hiding some really big secrets that could make or break them. In the end both have to trust the other to choose what matters most and hope it's the other.
What an incredible group of well-rounded characters. I loved the twins as much as Dylan and Katie. Even Dylan's eccentric grandmother was endearingly bothersome.
Redwood Bend is part of Robyn Carr's Virgin River series, but stands well on its own. I can't wait to go back and read the prequels to this wonderful story. I look forward to more great reads from Ms. Carr in the future.
