Ms. Barrett did a wonderful job with her storyline and character development in this novel. I loved following Laura Hayes throughout the story and I enjoyed being able to see everything through her eyes and feel everything she was feeling not only toward Jacob Hostetler, an Amish widower who she was interested in, but also how the Amish community had looked down upon her for being an actress filming within their private community. The chemistry between Laura and Jacob was undeniable, but I also enjoyed that they didn’t jump into anything quickly, considering they both came from completely different backgrounds. From the start, I had hoped that these two would find a common ground with each other and be able to work through the questions they both suffered from because their lifestyles were so in contrast to each other. I also found myself being completely submerged into the Amish ways because the author had done such a wonderful job portraying the Amish people with such ease. Clearly, Ms. Barrett had done her homework in writing this novel and it definitely showed in her storytelling. I highly recommend this story and look forward to reading more from this talented author.

Laura Hayes, an actress filming a new movie based on Amish culture, decides to move into a local house right in the heart of an Amish town known as Serenity, Pennsylvania. When she first sets her eyes on Jacob Hostetler, a very talented local carpenter, she never thinks that she would find herself being extremely attracted to him. No matter how she tries convincing herself that he isn’t someone she’d like to get to know more intimately, her feelings for him start becoming more apparent within the community. Jacob only knows his Amish culture and has heard horror stories about the English people coming in and portraying the Amish as bad people. But there’s something about Laura, this new English woman in Serenity, which he just can’t get out of his head. His mother insists that he must re-marry soon so there is a female helping to raise Daniel, his five-year-old son. The ironic part is that Jacob finds himself longing for something to happen between him and Laura, but he’s torn because of his strict Amish beliefs. Do Laura and Jacob decide to go against tradition and listen to their hearts?

Book Blurb for Temptation

Laura Hayes has been acting since she was an infant, making Hollywood the only home she has ever known. But when she moves to Pennsylvania's Amish country to film her next movie, she discovers there's more to life than a pair of Jimmy Choos and a Marie Claire cover.

Intrigued by the Amish simplicity, she's soon gardening and baking plum pies—and enjoying it. And when her neighbor turns out to be the local heartthrob and a talented furniture maker, she realizes that what's missing from her life might be the love of a good man—not to mention the perfect heirloom tomato.

Jacob fights the urge to question the teachings of his Amish beliefs—despite his desire to create furniture that is beautiful as well as useful—and struggles with his longing for the sexy stranger who makes him feel truly alive for the first time. As his attraction grows, so do his doubts, until he's forced to face temptation and decide once and for all what is truly worth the fight.
