“Blood Lust” by Alexandra Ivy gives a view of the complicated relationship between Bas and Myst. As events unfold, one gets a better appreciation for the way love changes one’s priorities, which enhances appreciation of two strong characters who have made difficult decisions. I am always fascinated by the way a perception can be changed to make previously reviled characters more sympathetic and this author did a nice job of gradually unfolding details to achieve that. Who can help falling in love with sweet little Molly, and seeing the heat and protectiveness flare between her parents keeps one engaged in the story. I think that familiarity with the previous books in this series would be helpful in parsing out some of the complicated relationships between various characters, but I was able to read the story as a stand-alone. There are powerful secondary characters who also need their time in the spotlight and I look forward to reading their stories as well.
This paranormal romance is part of the ‘The Sentinels’ series and centers around the relationship between Bas, the Sentinel/Assassin, and the mother of his beloved child Molly. Myst is a clairvoyant who has foreseen that she will destroy Valhalla. Bas has not forgiven her for abandoning their child, but when she returns to see Molly, he’s determined to discover Myst’s secrets. She has to decide whether to give in to her love for her family or make the ultimate sacrifice for all of her people.
Blessed and cursed by their hidden abilities, the Sentinels have no choice but to live, and love, on the edge of humanity…
The Sentinel assassin, Bas, is facing the greatest challenge of his outcast existence. His young daughter, Molly, has been kidnapped. But her disappearance has brought the return of her mother, Myst, whom Bas has never forgotten--or forgiven.
Haunted by a vision that she's destined to create a weapon that will destroy thousands, Myst was never impulsive--until she met the irresistibly handsome Bas. But with the Brotherhood, the enemy of the high-bloods hunting for her, Myst had to stay on the run, to keep her child, and the world, safe. Now, with the most important thing in both their lives at stake, she and Bas must embark on a treacherous journey to save Molly, to confront the truth of Myst's fate--and to face their fierce desire for one another.
