It doesn’t matter if you are a fan of the Kowalski family or not. This book has the entire family in it but it’s about Ben and Laney, neither whom are Kowalski’s! So this book is great for the fan and for the new reader. I loved how it blended the two and brought the town of Whitford, ME to life. This story is about second chances, family, expectations and so much more. You’ll explore the life of a paramedic in a very rural area. It’s not as easy as you might expect. You’ll learn about small town living where everyone not only knows your name; they know your family and love to gossip. I loved that Laney and Ben were not young 20 somethings. They had lives and trials and issues and knew what they wanted even if they weren’t sure how to get there. This book had humor, romance and so much. It’s one of those stories that you don’t want to put it down and the characters are ones that you wish you really knew. I really enjoyed this book and really should find the time to read the previous ones…..you know, the ones about the Kowalski family.
Laney knew that her divorce was necessary and that spending the summer working in ME would be good for her. She needed time to figure out where she wanted to go next and what she wanted to do. Ben accepted the job as paramedic in his small hometown in ME to make time to get married and start a family. Now, he just has to find the right woman. He’s instantly attracted to Laney but Laney isn’t interested in starting a relationship. Should Ben just walk away or give Laney all the time she needs and hope she falls for him?

Laney Caswell is looking for a change. A decade's worth of less-than-happy matrimony behind her, she wants peace—movies, books and, best of all, a new job at the Northern Star Lodge in Whitford, Maine. Spending the summer living in a camper is her chance to rediscover what makes her happy, and a perfect transition to her new life.
Being a paramedic in Whitford is nothing like Ben Rivers's city life, but when Josh Kowalski offers him the job, the lure of his hometown is too much to resist. Also too much to resist: Laney Caswell. Ben always thought he'd have a wife and kids, a happy family like the Kowalskis have all built, but he never made time in his life. Now he's found a woman who draws him like no other and helps him dream again—and the last thing she wants is a husband.
When the annual Kowalski family camping trip is moved to the Northern Star, both Ben and Laney are surrounded by the kind of happiness they've always wanted but never had. It just might be theirs—if they can put aside the past and reach for it together.
