Must Read Urban Fantasy & Paranormal Romance - June 2017
Summer is almost officially here.
What are you plans, other than reading?
My summer kicks off with taking my baby girl to college orientation then doing a quick family vacation before coming home and getting ready for her graduation party. At the end of the summer she’s off to college. *Sniff*
I’m going to need something really good to read to distract me from the fact that my house is going to feel very empty without her.
I see several new releases that look good, but I don’t know if they are forget everything else in the world good.

This month Laura Bickle is joining us to tell us about her newest project.
RR: Welcome Laura. Like so many other traditionally published authors you are now dipping your toes into the self-published pool. Tell us a little about that.
LB: Thanks, Roxanne! I’m super-excited to have the chance to tell a new story. My new book is called The Dragon’s Playlist. It’s about a young woman, Di, who has a bright future as a violinist. She’s called back home to West Virginia to help support her family after her father is badly injured in a mining accident. While she’s navigating the emotional turmoil of losing her dreams, she discovers something utterly magical and terrible…a dragon living deep in the mountain on which her father was injured.
RR: What genre do you classify The Dragon’s Playlist? Paranormal? Fantasy?
LB: I’m classifying The Dragon’s Playlist as a contemporary fantasy. It has a lot of YA elements, but I think it will also appeal to adult readers. A lot of folks (myself included) have mixed feelings about returning home again, and that’s really the emotional touchstone of the book. That, and a very cranky dragon who has a taste for music.
RR: Any romance twisted in?
LB: There is. Di comes across Jason, her high school boyfriend. His life hasn’t gone according to plan, either…he was working at the mine when her dad was hurt, and actually saved his life. Di is sorting out her feelings for him while an out-of-town environmental protester is coming closer than she’d like.
RR: Music, magic and dragons what a combination- tell us about the inspiration.
LB: I think that everyone has a bit of magic in their lives that we guard very carefully. Music has been Di’s magic, and it’s being taken away from her. When she discovers the dragon, she feels as if it’s her last chance to have magic in the world. He’s drawn to her because of her music, though he’s still a very, very dangerous creature.
RR: Where can readers find your newest book?
LB: The Dragon’s Playlist will be available as a serial on Wattpad and on my Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/Author.Laura.Bickle/.
The book will also be available as an ebook on Amazon, B&N, Apple iBooks, Kobo, and Google Play.
RR: So readers can wait patiently for free chapter releases or buy the book and read it all at once?
LB: Yep! Readers can read a chapter at a time or binge and get the whole book at once.
RR: I’m an impatient reader. I can never do serials, I just get the full book so I can read at my own pace.
LB: I do both. Mostly serials before I go to bed (that’s the comic book reader in me!), but weekends are for binging.
RR: Thank you, Laura, for joining us here at Night Owl. I can’t wait to read The Dragon’s Playlist.
LB: Thanks so much, Roxanne! I appreciate the chance to chat with you!
