Shana Galen - Five Historical Romance Covers that Make Me Go Ahhhh! #BookGiveaway
Writing historical romance has its disadvantages. The first being all the research. A character can’t just turn on a light or snap a photo. Depending on the time period, electricity and photography didn’t exist! But we do have one big advantage—the book cover. No other romance sub-genre gets to have the gorgeous covers we do. Here are a few of my favorites (in no particular order).
Once a Rebel—Mary Jo Putney
I love a strong heroine, and a strong heroine in a gorgeous dress is even better. I love this cover. It’s beautiful and leaves me with so many questions only reading the book can answer.
Much Ado About Jack—Christy English
Who can resist a sexy hero? And a sexy naval officer with his shirt unbuttoned? I’m done for. Okay, so shirts didn’t unbutton like that in the 1800s. I still bought the print book and no, it wasn’t just for the cover.
Never Judge a Lady by Her Cover—Sarah MacLean
I know I was gushing about the beautiful dresses on historical covers, which is why a cover with the heroine in trousers is so amazing. The first mock-up of my cover for The Rogue Pirate’s Bride actually had the heroine in trousers. I wish we’d kept it that way! I love the look of MacLean’s cover and what the unconventional dress says about the heroine’s personality.
Wilde in Love—Eloisa James
If you’ve seen the BBC Pride and Prejudice you instantly felt a connection with this cover. If you haven’t seen it, go watch. We’ll still be here in 6 hours. Not only do I love the nod to the Austen movie in this cover, I love the colors. Blue and purple are my favorites. And the stepback is just as amazing.
Third Son’s a Charm—Shana Galen
I debated whether to put Third Son’s a Charm or Lord and Lady Spy on the list because those are my favorite of my covers. I decided to go with Third Son’s a Charm because I just adore the artwork. I feel like I can see the stars twinkling, smell the flowers, hear the music in the ballroom wafting out, and I really, really want that dress!
