Garrett Burke and Lady Ivy Wentworth were on the trail of a jewel thief, working together for the Crown. Garrett left Ivy's warm bed on a lead to catch the thief, only to be attacked. Believing that Ivy had betrayed him he cuts all ties with her.
Two years later they are brought back together, Garrett is following a new lead, still searching for the jewels that tore them apart. Ivy is in Winter Garden to search for a man who went missing without a trace. Both cases seem to be connected, and they believe the answers to each may lie in the many secret passages of a manor house in the village of Winter Garden.
Can they learn to trust each other again? Will the mysteries bring them together or force them further apart?
What a thoroughly enjoyable read. I have to admit to staying up way past my bedtime in order to finish this book, I found myself unable to put it down. Adele Ashworth penned a riveting tale with a well thought out plot and superbly developed characters and scenery.
A NOTORIOUS PROPOSISION is a successful blend of romance and mystery. Ivy and Garrett are both intelligent and very likable characters. They work well together even though they each have a good reason not to trust each other, which makes it all the more interesting watching them rekindle the passion they once shared.
