Between the pages of "Summer of Scandal" Madeleine Atherton and Charles Grayson, Earl of Saunders, are thrown together as she contemplates marriage to another man and he contemplates a proposal to his cousin. Each must decide if love is worth risking angering their parents.
I enjoyed this historical romance book from beginning to end. I enjoyed seeing how Madeleine and Charles would keep being brought together and what they would do when they were. It kept me reading, and kept the story moving.
A few times a phrase or two was thrown in that I questioned being used during the time this story is set in, but other than that I had no problem knowing the setting of the story.
I really liked both Madeleine and Charles. I always enjoy a heroine who is a reader or writer and I love a hero that is more than just a rake or a rogue. I thought they complemented each other well.
I thought the conflicts for both Charles and Madeleine were pretty rough and understandable for the time the story is set. In all honesty, I would’ve had trouble making those decisions too.
I enjoyed the ending of "Summer of Scandal" and look forward to the next title in this historical romance series.
Madeleine Atherton is no typical American heiress, sent to England to marry an English lord. A brilliant college graduate who secretly dreams of becoming a published author, she wants to marry for love. After receiving a proposal from a future duke, Madeleine flees the London Season for Cornwall to seek her sister’s advice, never expecting her decision to be complicated by a charming, handsome earl she’s certain she dislikes—even though his every touch sets her blood on fire.
Charles Grayson, the Earl of Saunders, has secrets and ambitions of his own. Although under pressure from his mother and gravely ill father to marry his cousin, Charles cannot find the words to propose. But this fascinating American visitor does not figure into his plans, either.
Thrown together unexpectedly at Trevelyan Manor, Madeleine and Charles struggle to rise above their intense attraction. But as things heat up between them over a summer that becomes increasingly scandalous, Madeleine and Charles will both be forced to make a difficult choice. Can two dreamers dare to defy convention and find their own happily ever after?
