Brave New Earl

The Way to a Lord’s Heart, #1

Jane Ashford delves in to serious matters with absolutely delightful results with this lovely historical romance. Benjamin, Earl of Furness, is a wounded hero and Jean Saunders is a determined woman with a troubled past and watching these two navigate around one another was a definite treat. Watching Benjamin consumed in his grief was heartbreaking upon first meeting Jean it was she who I wasn’t too fond of. As soon as I saw the reason for her aggressive actions I completely understood where she was coming from and longed for these two to heal one another. Benjamin’s son was an adventure all on his own and I never knew what would happen upon any occasion. He was absolutely precocious and I adored guessing just what he would do next. I was equally enamoured with Benjamin’s uncle and loved his subtle interference. The setting and the supporting characters added a depth to the story that made it even more enjoyable. If you enjoy historical romances with strong characters and interesting obstacles this one is a must read.

The Story: Having lost his wife in childbirth Benjamin has spent the last five years simply existing, surrounded by sorrow and grief. When Jean Saunders hers that her cousin’s child is being dreadfully neglected she takes matters into her own hands and rushes off to retrieve the boy. Neither of them are prepared for the situation her actions land them in. Can they both have their eyes and hearts opened and if so can they get beyond their pasts to have a future together?
