A.J. Llewellyn takes us back to Hawaii and to Kimo and Lopaka's lives but in a different way this time. Johnny Kaimana is a young tour guide and Lopaka's former boyfriend now he is enjoying his new life with his roommate, lover Alex "aloha" Granger. When they come across Lopaka and Kimo on the beach Kimo lets them know that they have been looking for Aloha all over the place because he is well known for being able to find music of all kinds no matter what it is. They wanted special music for their wedding. Johnny seeing Lopaka with Kimo and hearing this brought up bad memories of that fateful night long ago. Aloha said he would be happy to do it and told them he would meet them at his stall the following day.
Weird things have started happening since Johnny and Aloha saw this mysterious stranger going into the cemetery. Then Johnny saw him again when he went for his morning swim at the beach the stranger took his t-shirt. They don't let Kimo know about it. He gets them the songs they need and they are invited to the wedding. They agree they will come to the wedding although Johnny has reservations about it, because of what happened that night.
Their friend Cindy hooks up with the mysterious stranger and they all go out one night when Cindy wants them to meet the stranger. Things instantly go wrong when she lets out who he is and what he does. He is Mahini the tattoo artist that did Kimo's tattoos and is from the Forbidden Island. The next morning she doesn't answer her phone and when she lets them Johnny into her loft he finds the guy is still there and so is Kimo's ex-wife who has seemed to slip her way into Cindy's bed. He lets Aloha know what is going on and heads to meet him at his stall for lunch, and they make their plans for dinner. The next morning when Johnny goes for a run up Nu'uanu Pali, Mahini was waiting for him but walked away a bit and disappeared into the Royal Mausoleum. Things even get weirder for Johnny after that, Kimo and Lopaka help him through it all.
A.J. Llewellyn really is one of the brightest and talented writers I have had a privilege to review for. He again shows us his talent with another book in his Phantom Lover Series. Forbidden Island has everything you could want in a book romance, mystery, comedy, passion, and more. He added complete depth to Aloha and Johnny's characters to bring them to life. You feel like you are there in Hawaii with them on the beach or in the bungalow. This is definitely another I will add to my ever-growing e-book collection and A.J. Llewellyn collection as well.
Johnny Kaimana is a young Honolulu tour guide, enjoying a fun, carefree existence and a no-strings sexual relationship with his roommate, island music man Alex “Aloha” Granger. Just as things turn serious between them Johnny finds himself drawn to Mahini, a mysterious stranger, an imperious tattoo artist from The Forbidden Island of Ni’ihau. What starts as a hot sexual romp turns almost deadly when Mahini, determined to either keep Johnny for himself or kill him, secretly burdens him with an ancient, evil curse called he malama pu’olo, or a Bundle of Death. With the aid of the powerful kahuna priest Kimo Wilder (from the book Phantom Lover), Johnny seeks to retrieve the very personal object Mahini has stolen from him. To get it back means making a rare and dangerous trip to Ni’ihau an island forbidden to outsiders. Can Johnny break the hold of the curse? He must, for his sanity, for his life and also for the life of the man he realizes he truly loves. The man he calls Aloha.
