I honestly felt a bit let down by this story because it just never took off from the beginning. I know that eventually Liam and Alicia had to make some tough decisions of whether or not they should have started a relationship together and because of this I thought the pacing was going to pick up from there. Sadly though, it just seemed that the story was too weighed down throughout. It just didn’t meet the high expectations I set for it based on the interesting blurb that drew me in originally. I grew tired quickly of everyone having something to say about how strongly they felt against Alicia thinking of starting a relationship with Liam.
On a positive note, I did like the storyline idea that the author came up with. I’m going to chalk this one up to just not being the perfect fit for me at this time. I wouldn’t hesitate to review any future stories by this author because I feel that each story sets different expectations for me. Her next book just might turn out to be one of my favorite stories that I’ve read for the year.
Alicia Galloway is trying to work through the grief and heartache of losing her husband once she is notified he has been killed while serving his country. Now, Alicia must make some cold, hard decisions if she should start a relationship with Liam and not base it on all the bad stories everyone has to say about him. Does Alicia decide to have Liam in her life romantically? Or does she take everyone’s advice instead?
All widowed Alicia Galloway has left of her war-hero husband are the flag that draped his coffin and his final wishes: to move to his hometown, take over the family bookstore and enjoy a simple, quiet life with their two small children.
