The Truth about Vampires

A Sons of Midnight Title

Kristin Reed is sure her new investigative report is going to earn her a Pulitzer. Finding out that vampires truly do exist is the scoop of a lifetime and she is willing to do whatever it takes to ensure her story is factually accurate. Assisting her is Dmitri Dionotte, the owner of Sangria, a nightclub that caters to vamps and humans by offering many specialties, including private “tasting rooms.” Dmitri, also, is a high-ranking official of the Cascade Clan.

Leaders of the Cascade Clan believe that the time is ripe for vampires to come out of hiding and be recognized as legitimate members of society. There is division in the ranks, however, and some, known as Reivers, vehemently oppose this new direction. Led by the gorgeous and deadly Vane, this group will stop at nothing to squelch Kristin’s story; Kristin is a threat they cannot tolerate. Dmitri is tasked with protecting the other members of his clan but he finds himself, instead, falling for the alluring reporter. But, can even his formidable abilities save her from Vane’s ruthless scheming?

This was a fairly run-of-the-mill paranormal love story. There were times I wanted to smack Kristin when she made some particularly foolish decisions. I never really felt the amazing chemistry I wanted to feel between Dmitri and Kristin and I wish Vane had been more fully described. To me, he always seemed to be too nice and he needed stronger motivations for his actions. The ending disappointed me, somewhat, as it seemed, based upon a few interruptive, pleading remarks, big issues were forgotten or set aside. This novel generally held my attention.
