This one is one of my most anticipated reads of 2012. I have desperately wanted to get into Winter’s head since the moment we met him in Wicked Intentions. The intensity of the attraction between him and Isabel is electric, mesmerizing. Winter’s motivations and bone-deep commitment to his mission were awe-inspiring. I admired him from the beginning. Lady Isabel, on the other hand, I wasn’t sure about. But as I learned more about her, I wondered what she was hiding behind her façade of society lady. When it was revealed, my heart broke as I read that scene. At the end of the book, Ms. Hoyt had my jaw on the floor. Just when I had this series figured out, she drops a bomb at my feet and I am still reeling at the implications. Ms. Hoyt makes me laugh, makes me cry, and makes me fall in love with each couple. There is pure delight on each and every page! What more can you ask from an author? Thief of Shadows is another 5 star read from the stellar Elizabeth Hoyt!
Winter Makepeace is a man with a mission, driven to right wrongs and protect the innocent. That is what gets him out of bed in the morning and follows him into his dreams. There is no time for anything or anyone else, or so he thinks until he is wounded trying to escape a mob. Lady Isabel is one of the ladies supporting the children’s home. She comes across the Ghost of St. Giles and rescues him. There begins a mutual fascination between the two. At the same time, the ladies want Winter to become more socially polished to better represent the home. Lady Isabel is nominated to give him that polish. As they spend more time together, Isabel is constantly wondering why he seems so familiar. Torn by the attraction to a lady and his drive to discover who is stealing little girls off the streets, will he lose everything that he holds dear?
A MASKED MAN . . .
Winter Makepeace lives a double life. By day he’s the stoic headmaster of a home for foundling children. But the night brings out a darker side of Winter. As the moon rises, so does the Ghost of St. Giles—protector, judge, fugitive. When the Ghost, beaten and wounded, is rescued by a beautiful aristocrat, Winter has no idea that his two worlds are about to collide.
A DANGEROUS WOMAN . . .
Lady Isabel Beckinhall enjoys nothing more than a challenge. Yet when she’s asked to tutor the Home’s dour manager in the ways of society—flirtation, double entendres, and scandalous liaisons—Isabel can’t help wondering why his eyes seem so familiar—and his lips so tempting.
A PASSION NEITHER COULD DENY
During the day Isabel and Winter engage in a battle of wills. At night their passions are revealed . . . But when little girls start disappearing from St. Giles, Winter must avenge them. For that he might have to sacrifice everything—the Home, Isabel . . . and his life.
