I like the idea that werewolves in Breazile's story were actual wolves that merged with their human counterparts during the change. It’s a nice unique spin on a common paranormal group.
Alexia in Keeping Blood is half-wolf half-vampire. She is an anomaly in the world of wolves and vamps. Ian is a visiting were from another pack that is looking to make his own way since he is an Alpha in nature too and not willing to stay with his fathers pack where there may be issues. When Ian's wolf meets Alexia's wolf it is obvious that the two are fated to be mates.
I was really interested in this until the plot fully came out and we realize that Alexia's parents have been arrested for mixing of the species. A huge no no apparently. This bothered me however since Alexia is twenty-four and her parents have been together that long and then some. If there was going to be a huge fall out and potential penalties for species mixing, it seems this would have occurred a long time ago. Why wait over two decades to punish this couple. At that small sticking point I couldn’t really believe in the story any more. The arrest is used as a plot device to convince everyone that a council representing each of the species is needed to monitor these issues in the future. I gave this 3.5 as the rating because of the unique spin on weres and the character development. The dialogue was intriguing and other than the weak plot I did actually enjoy watching Ian and Alexia accept their mating and their HEA .
