Alyssa Morgan, sergeant within the Surete du Quebec (SQ) police force, has been tasked with creating an SQ run force that will patrol the Blackriver Indian Reserve and help rid it of the crime and drugs that have appeared recently. What she's not told is that any police force run by the SQ or with any involvement whatsoever by the SQ will not go over very well with the residents of the reserve.
Remi Whitedeer is a man who belongs to two different worlds but doesn't feel like he belongs to either. Being raised by his maternal grandfather on the reserve has taught him the traditional ways of the Iroquois Nation, but Remi is looking for something more. He'd hoped his work as a counselor, faith healer and the other jobs he's taken would help endear him to the tribe. But unfortunately, he faces prejudices from within the tribe, including his own family.
The one person both Alyssa and Remi feel completely at ease with are each other. From the first moment they met, their chemistry seemed to leap off the page. They both wanted to get to the bottom of the drug issue and were willing to do what it took to get their answers, but they were also willing to work with the other. Despite prejudices, families and bosses, Alyssa and Remi couldn't resist moving their relationship to the next level, despite knowing there could be serious repercussions.
The romance between Alyssa and Remi wasn't the only reason for this fast reading, page turner. The storyline of the renegade faction within the Blackriver tribe was intriguing. It was interesting to see how a man so bent on preserving the history, traditional and pureness of the tribe went down a path that lead to the destruction of so many on the reserve and his own family.
This is a read that will have you staying up late to not only enjoy Alyssa and Remi's out of this world chemistry, but so see what lengths some will go to in order to preserve what they feel is right.
