Retired NFL kicker, Sam Ridge, is new to Fool’s Gold. He has had horrible luck with women – from stalkers to “tell all” memoir writers. He meets Dellina Hopkins in a bar and they have a partial one night stand. After discovering Dellina’s storage room and misinterpreting the items in it, Sam skips out and spends the next several months avoiding Dellina. However, in a town the size of Fool’s Gold, his plan for avoidance doesn’t last. Score, Sam’s PR firm, is hosting a weekend getaway party for select clients and Sam desperately needs Dellina’s party planning business to make the event a success. It’s hard to maintain a professional relationship when there’s sparks flying.
Sam is absolutely yummy but has a dating history that would probably convince other guys to join a monastery. His parents, however, would probably convince the faint of heart to move…to another planet. Dellina realizes that what Sam thinks he wants and what he desperately needs are two entirely different things. I like that she is a strong, independent female lead who isn’t afraid to follow her heart and put herself out there. Is it all rainbows and smooth sailing? No – but the best things in life rarely are.
I adored this revisit to Fool’s Gold. I really appreciate a well written, steady paced book with lots of character interactions. Susan Mallery definitely doesn’t fail to deliver! There are cameos by our favorite past couples as well as introductions to new characters. I like that even though this books is part of a series, you don’t have to read the entire series – or even the books in order – to make the story make sense.
New York Times bestselling sensation Susan Mallery returns to Fool's Gold, California, where it's true that sometimes you have to kiss a few frogs…
Former pro-football kicker Sam Ridge has notoriously bad luck with women—from cheaters to fame chasers. Still, the gorgeous brunette at the bar in Fool's Gold looks harmless—until she takes him home and he discovers a room devoted to securing a man, for life.
Dellina Hopkins never guessed that storing gowns from a friend's bridal boutique would chase away her first and only fling. After her parents died, she skipped her "wild youth" to raise her sisters. She doesn't want forever from Sam, but one night—all night—would've been nice.
His clean getaway gets messy when his firm hires Dellina to plan an event. As long hours lead to late nights, the two succumb to temptation again. Has Sam's luck finally changed? Or this time, will Dellina be the one to run?
